Through the gates
Everyone rolled into Ashover from 5pm. Our barn for the weekend — log burner, a huge kitchen, five bedrooms. Welcome drinks, a briefing, a kit check and the first bit of getting to know each other.

The first Grounded Events weekend. A barn in the Peak District, 15 miles of proper walking, great food and a group of people who didn't know each other on Friday.
I wanted a weekend where people could switch off, get out somewhere different and push themselves a bit — without it turning into a race or a boot camp with a view.
So we sorted the details: the barn, the route, the breakfasts, the pub. You brought the boots. What happened in between was the good bit — long conversations on the climbs, people helping each other over stiles, and a lot of laughing.

The weekend

Everyone rolled into Ashover from 5pm. Our barn for the weekend — log burner, a huge kitchen, five bedrooms. Welcome drinks, a briefing, a kit check and the first bit of getting to know each other.

Breakfast boards at 7, on the trail by half eight. Lumsdale Valley's waterfalls and old mills, up to High Tor over the Derwent, map-and-compass skills along the way, past Riber Castle and back over the final ridge.

Stops were part of the plan, not a sign of weakness. Sunshine, a table outside, a couple of drinks and plenty of nonsense — then a shower and a proper Peak District pub dinner with wine on the table.
One step. One session. Better together.
Breakfast, then a recovery walk or boot camp — your choice. Coffee, check-out and a group that had turned into mates in 48 hours.

On the trail
The Grounded difference
We walk together, take regular breaks and finish as a group. The aim is to enjoy every mile.
There's a planned decision point halfway. Tired legs or bad weather? A shorter return that still hits the highlights.
If the weather turns we adapt the route and make the call on the day. Adventure doesn't stop for rain.
Map and compass, reading the ground, pacing a long day. Stuff you can use on your own next time.
